One of the things we at Paragon Auto Rental love is that Chicago does things BIG—including events! There’s never a shortage of things to do here, but the city has really outdone itself with the exciting festivals it has in store for spring 2017.
Not only has 2017 been given the title “The Year of Public Art” in Chicago, it’s also the anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birth—the “Wright 150”. This spring will also see the biggest annual outdoor dancing series in America, the largest free blues festival in the world, and the biggest free outdoor food festival in the U.S., among other incredible events.
Here are just a few exciting things coming up in Chicago that you might like to attend with your buddies or family members.
Baconfest Chicago (March 31 – April 1)
This is exactly what it sounds like—a bacon utopia, including a wide variety of bacon dishes from some of Chicago’s finest chefs. Partial proceeds go towards ending hunger in the community.
Chicago International Movies & Music Festival (April 20 – 23)
This movie/concert hybrid is energetic and unique, showcasing films, music, panels, Q&As, and lots more.
Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (April 21 – 23)
Here fans can see the biggest names in comic culture and maybe even get an autograph. This comic book and pop culture convention celebrates comics, TV, toys, movies, anime, manga, and games.
Chicago Kids and Kites Festival (May 6)
This family favorite is an outdoor event which supplies kite kits for kids to build, decorate, and fly (while supplies last). This year, the event will also feature synchronized kite flying maneuvers.
Mayfest (May 19 – 21)
For 21 years, Mayfest has been known for showcasing some of the best music, entertainment, and cuisine in all of Chicago.
Chicago Gospel Music Festival (June 2 – 3)
Celebrating gospel’s deep Chicago roots in the city where it was born, this 32-year-old festival features traditional choirs and contemporary urban gospel music.
Do Division (June 2 – 4)
This Chicago favorite spans 10 city blocks and features two live music stages, a “family” stage, a variety of local vendors and food, beer and wine, kids’ activities, a runway, DJs, and a big sidewalk sale!
Andersonville Midsommarfest (June 9 – 11)
Midsommarfest features two days and three nights of music, dancing, entertainment for kids, and outstanding food.
Ribfest Chicago (June 9 – 11)
Now in its 18th year, Ribfest averages 60,000+ attendees who anticipate three days of rib mania, competitions, and family fun.
Wells Street Art Festival (June 10 – 11)
This event returns for its 43rd year in Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood. It features an eclectic mix of art, tasty foods from the neighborhood, live music, and family-friendly activities.
Chicago Ale Fest (June 23 – 24)
This celebration features more than 200 American craft beers, live shows, and Chicago’s favorite food trucks.
Country LakeShake Music Festival (June 23 – 25)
Formerly known as “Windy City LakeShake”, this country music festival will be featuring some of the biggest names in country today.
…And these are just a few! As you can see, there are many spring 2017 events in Chicago to choose from, so plan your city getaway now, including your car or van rental. If you’re a visitor from out of town, it’s a great idea to rent a car in order to make getting around the city easier during your stay. If you’re local and attending with friends or lots of family members, renting a van is smart in order to save on gas, stick together, and ensure that no one will be driving while under the influence—say, after Chicago Cubs Opening Day at Wrigley Field or the Lincoln Park Wine Festival.
